Galatians 5:1 says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
I fight for freedom. I fight for limited government, personal liberty and constitutional governance. I fight through every platform I know and probably annoy the people in my life by my constant talk on this one subject. Freedom is near and dear to my heart.
Many people don’t understand why this is such a huge issue for me, so I wanted to explain. The source of this passion doesn’t stem from being an American, it doesn’t stem from my love for politics, and it doesn’t stem from me enjoying the government staying out of my life. It stems from me being a follower of Jesus Christ.
Before I met Jesus, I was a slave to myself. Have you ever wanted so hard to break out of a habit or not do something, but you literally can’t stop yourself from continuing that habit, doing that thing? That was me. Paul said in Romans 7:19, “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing.” That is a perfect summary of life before Jesus.
Slavery of the soul is worse than slavery of the physical body. When your soul is enslaved, you look like you’re alive, but really you’re dying. Thankfully, God is a glorious Creator who loves his flawed creation dearly, and he not only didn’t want to be separated from us, but he also desired that we be free so much so that he was willing to let his son be murdered on a cross. He was willing to pay for our liberty in blood.
Jesus said in John 8:32, “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Once you see the light of Christ, once you know the truth of who he is and what he has done to save you and how deeply you are loved, acceptance of this truth is like having shackles fall off. There is nothing that sets a soul free like a relationship with Jesus Christ.
God values freedom so highly he was willing to let his son be killed to pay for ours. That is absolutely astounding, and has caused me to personally value freedom as well. If God created our souls to be free, he also created our bodies and lives to be free as well.
Therefore, my passion for freedom for Americans and people worldwide. While I will continue to fight on behalf of trafficking victims through coalitions like the END IT Movement, my main focus and passion is defending the freedoms and liberties given to us as Americans. No other country in the world was specifically designed to allow people to live their lives freely. Because so many of my brothers and sisters live under extreme persecution, chained by laws and at times even physical shackles, I will continue to fight for every bit of freedom that we have been given. There are people worldwide who are desperate for freedom-I’m going to work to keep mine while fighting for theirs as well.
