Bold As Lions

Even caged lions know their power. There is not a doubt in your mind that if you were to stand on the other side of the glass, you would be fully at their mercy. They have no reason for cowardice; they remain confident in their power.

Think about bears. Although most of my encounters with bears have been from quite a distance, I vividly remember standing breathless in Alaskan air, watching a massive bear confidently walk by with a mere wire fence separating us. The bear never stopped to question itself or to defer to those watching it; it was confident in its strength.

There is something that separates a predator; it is confident, knowing the strength it possesses and the place it rules over. The lion and the bear have no need for timidity.

And this is what the Christian is likened to: the confidence of the lion, the bear.

Proverbs 28:1 announces:

“The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.”

If you’re working in wickedness, striving for yourself, why should you be bold? You are compromised from every angle, disadvantaged at every turn. You are not only running the opposite direction from the LORD of Lords and the KING of Kings, but you have set your face against Him.

How could boldness be found here?

But not so for those who chase after the Creator of it all! Those who seek after righteousness, seek His face, know exactly where there source of strength comes from. If you know that the God of the universe is FOR you, that you are following Him and seeking to live like Him, how could you be anything other than bold?

Future grace holds us fast. And so, we are as bold as those lions and bears that rule over their territory with confidence.

2 Timothy 1:7 states,

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”

Fear and timidity are not of God. You are led and loved by the Lion of Judah; such confidence can be garnered nowhere else. The only thing you have left to fear is God Himself, and He has already established His care and keeping of those who are His.

Step into this week with a boldness, knowing it doesn’t come from you alone. If you follow Him, you have the boldness of lions. You are guarded and empowered by the King of the universe.

Live like it.
